If you enjoy following trends in interior design, you are in for a real treat. Behr has just declared Rumors (MQ1-15), a deep ruby red, as the color of the year 2025. That’s only right, since TikTok’s “unexpected red” theory has been shaking up the design world lately. (The concept calls for using red in surprising ways, even if it doesn’t necessarily fit.)

Available exclusively at The Home Depot, Behr encourages you to use Rumors in any way that fits your style, whether you’re experimenting with it in small doses or making a bigger impact (maximalists, we’re talking to you!). Try it on kitchen cabinets, create a modern accent wall for your bedroom, or test your DIY skills by upgrading a piece of furniture like a bench or console table. It can also work on a front door.
“Rumors is the perfect color with that balance of warmth and vitality,” Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr Paint Company, told Gold housekeeping“We love it because of its versatility.”

Need a little more motivation to consider Rumors in your own space? In a recent survey, Behr found that three-quarters of respondents would decorate an entire room or just one wall with the bold color. “In our research, we found that people are really liking color again, and we wanted to offer them a color that was accessible enough to try,” says Woelfel.
The brand gave a small group of design editors, including the Good housekeeping Team, a first-hand look at the dynamic hue during a media preview at the Pendry West Hollywood. The Behr team showcased the beauty of Rumors in a variety of vignettes, from a charming fireplace look to a bathroom vanity area. You can use it as an accent wall for larger spaces or highlight smaller areas like a hallway.
While this year’s striking color choice is quite different from Behr’s 2024 Color of the Year – Cracked Pepper, a soft shade of black – we think it’s just as luxurious.
