An American Airlines traveler posted a video explaining how she is trying to amass $15,000 in travel vouchers after an overbooked flight.
TikTok user Susan Berry (@berrycreativeface) has garnered over 37,000 likes for her most viral video. In the caption, she wrote: “I live here now and my full-time job is collecting $1,200 worth of @American Airlines coupons every day. I’m now at $4,800!”
In her 5-second clip, Berry stands in the airport wearing headphones and holding a stack of travel vouchers, lip-syncing to an audio recording that screams, “Oh my God! I’m never leaving… I’m never leaving.”
She also added a caption that reads, “When you find out there is no limit to receiving travel vouchers from American Airlines. $10,000, here I come!”
How she received the vouchers
Berry mentioned in a previous post how she received the vouchers and asked viewers what steps she should take next.
She also explains that American Airlines overbooked the same flight she had booked to Philadelphia until two weeks before the scheduled flight. “They need someone to volunteer to be available for the flight until then, and every day they’re given $1,200 in travel vouchers,” she says.
Berry said that by the time she recorded this video, she had already saved $2,400 because she had opted to be on standby twice.
“I’m really wondering… should I just go ahead and buy $14,000 worth of plane tickets until August 15?” she asks.
Viewers encourage Berry to keep going
Viewers in the comments section encouraged Berry to stay on standby, leaving comments like, “$14,000 is INSANE” and “Yeah, you should totally do that. That sounds like a much better story.”
One said, “Yeah girl! Go on to $15,000!!”
“I just discovered this little series and I’m in it right now… get it girl,” admitted another.
While Berry continued to post videos during her standby trip, she published vlogs about what kept her busy during her time alone and called it “Camp American Airlines.”
On August 15, Berry posted an update video at the airport. The video shows her redeeming the first travel voucher she received.
“Guess where I’m going?” she asks. “Here are your clues: Elvis, loud noises, money.”
“First class?” a viewer asked Berry in the comments section.
She replied: “Absolutely not. I try to keep the vouchers for as long as possible!”
