Monsters: The story of Lyle and Erik Menendez | Netflix unveils first trailer for the Dahmer sequel

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming true crime series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”

Monsters: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was a huge hit for Netflix when it was released in 2022, so it’s no wonder Netflix is looking for more disturbing true crime stories to adapt into its anthology series. Next up is the story of the Menendez brothers.

Netflix released the first teaser trailer and a release date for Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. Take a look:

This is what Netflix has to say about the new series: Following the huge success of DAHMER, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true crime anthology series returns with “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” telling the story of the two real-life brothers who were convicted of the murder of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, in 1996.

While the prosecution argued that they were trying to inherit the family fortune, the brothers claimed – and continue to claim to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions were based on fear of lifelong physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story delves into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for today’s audiences’ fascination with true crime, and in turn asks audiences the question: Who are the real monsters?

Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez The film stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as the brothers, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny play their parents. Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor and Leslie Grossman also star.

Netflix received both acclaim and criticism for Dahmer when the series premiered. While many praised Evan Peters’ portrayal of the notorious serial killer, many viewers and critics also felt that the series glorified Dahmer without questioning the role of systemic racism in his crimes. Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 men between 1978 and 1991, with most of his victims being men of color.

Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez will stream on Netflix on September 19th.
