On this day in Boston Celtics history, shooting guard PJ Dozier signed a two-way contract with the team in 2018. Dozier, a graduate of his hometown’s University of South Carolina, had not been selected in the 2017 NBA Draft and had instead signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for their Summer League team.

After stints with the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2017/18 season, the Colombian native landed with the Celtics and signed a one-season contract. During his time with Boston, Dozier made the All-NBA G League team, the equivalent of the All-Star team in that league, with the Maine Red Claws (the Celtics’ development partner in the G League, now the Maine Celtics).

Boston declined to renew his contract at the end of the season, and Dozier joined the Denver Nuggets, for whom he still plays. With the team, he averaged 3.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

The Celtics were led by point guard Kemba Walker with 24 points and 8 rebounds and forward Jaylen Brown with 21 points and 7 rebounds.

Philadelphia’s big man Joel Embiid scored 30 points and 13 rebounds, but that wasn’t enough because no other Sixer cracked the 20-point mark.

“I don’t want to get swept off the court,” Embiid said at the time, via AP. “I don’t want that on my resume. I’m going to work my ass off. I’m going to come in and do whatever I can to make sure we win a game.”

Unfortunately for Embiid, the Sixers were actually swept off the field.
