Julian McGruther appointed Senior A&R at Sony Music Publishing Australia

Sony Music Publishing Australia has announced the appointment of its new Senior A&R, Julian McGrutherThe music industry professional will take up the position with immediate effect.

McGruther comes to Sony with decades of experience. For the past seven years he was Creative Director at Mushroom music and has worked closely with publishing clients from Australia and abroad, including Amy Shark, Budjerah, Nat Dunn, Jem Cassar-Daleyand more.

At Sony, McGruther reports directly to Craig HawkerHead of A&R/Creative at Sony Music Publishing. He will also work with Alliyah Fareothe company’s A&R Assistant/Scout, as part of a team that further drives Sony’s local A&R efforts, signs and develops local talent, and helps build successful careers for Sony Music Publishing’s songwriters.

About the new role, McGruther revealed in a press release: “I am thrilled to join the Sony Music Publishing team and represent such a diverse and talented roster of songwriters. I have been fortunate to work with Damian (Trotter), Craig, Liyah and the team over the years and have always respected their taste and passion.”

McGruther continued, “It’s a privilege to support local music and the people who make it, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work supporting the incredible songwriters at Sony Music Publishing and spreading the word about their unique stories and careers.”

Hawker added that Sony Music Publishing is “delighted” to welcome him to the family, stating that McGruthers’ “passion for music and deep understanding of the music landscape, combined with his proven track record of identifying and nurturing talent, make him an invaluable addition to our team.”

McGruthers was appointed to Sony Music Publishing Australia several months ago.
