Changes are pending in the operations of the Fort Jackson Photo Lab that will impact customers visiting the facility after September 1.

“On September 1st, we will change the designated days. This means that only Tuesday will be reserved for DA photos and Wednesday and Thursday will be the days for taking command photos,” explained Reginal Rogers.

Rogers, who serves as Fort Jackson’s public affairs officer, is also the chief technician of the facility’s photo lab, a position that was filled in January when the former photo lab technician retired.

Rogers said the change was necessary because of the facility’s training mission and its requirement for more command photos than DA photos.

Community members needing photos should log on to https://vios.army.mil and select the East Region. From there, you should see Fort Jackson in the list of facilities. Select Fort Jackson and schedule your appointment.

“The Fort Jackson Photo Lab does not accept walk-ins,” is the first thing Rogers wants to tell lab customers.

According to Rogers, the photo lab is currently open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Wednesday reserved entirely for soldiers and civilians who need portrait or command photos taken.

“Tuesdays and Thursdays we do Department of the Army photos, which are three-quarter length photos in the Army blue uniform or the current Army green service uniform, known in the ranks as ‘pinks and greens,'” he explained. “Wednesdays are dedicated to unit or command photos of our military personnel and award photos of our civilians. Basically, those are the photos you find on the walls when you walk into various units or organizations on post.”

Rogers said units should refrain from sending their soldiers to the photo lab and expect them to get an appointment there on the fly.

“We are no longer able to process walk-in appointments, so if you do not make an appointment in time, you will have to reschedule for a later date,” he said. “Also, all DA photos will be uploaded to the DAPMIS website to be included in your official records, so make sure your uniform is compliant.”
