Empty guest room catches fire in Oxnard hotel where cowboys are; no one is injured

A fire was reported Tuesday in an empty guest room at the Oxnard hotel where the Dallas Cowboys are holding their training camp, but the team said there were no injuries.

The fire was contained to one room, according to the team, and practice activities were not disrupted. The Cowboys have two more practices before they break up training camp on Thursday and fly home to Dallas for their preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dallas has held its training camp at the hotel complex, which is adjacent to two practice fields in Oxnard, California, every year since 2012. The Cowboys previously spent time in Oxnard while also training in San Antonio.

The Oxnard facility was the Raiders’ training center when they were in Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s. The Cowboys first trained in Oxnard in 2004.

The team released a statement shortly after the incident on Tuesday.

“This afternoon, there was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, California. The emergency was confined to one room, which was vacant at the time, and there were no injuries,” the statement said. “The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Police Department for their quick response to the situation.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
