Wyoming Senator John Barrasso defeated a Republican challenger in the primary on Tuesday, paving the way for a fight for a third term in November.
Barrasso currently serves as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, the third-highest position among Republican senators, and ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. defeated Reid Rasner, a financial advisor.

Rasner’s main campaign issues were Wyoming’s energy industry, southern border security, and term limits for Congress.
Barrasso is trying to defend his seat against Democrat Scott Morrow of Laramie.

Barrasso, an orthopedic surgeon and former state representative from Casper, has gained popularity in the Senate and is a frequent critic of the Biden administration’s immigration policies.
Barrasso recently made headlines for criticizing the Secret Service following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
His office said that “no one has claimed responsibility,” although the shooter “was identified as a suspect an hour before the shooting.”

In January, Barrasso’s wife lost her battle with brain cancer.
“After a brave battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and home with the Lord,” Barrasso said in a statement. “Bobbi was not only a devoted wife and mother, but also a leader, a passionate advocate for Wyoming and a friend to everyone she met. We miss her greatly. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for your prayers and continued support as we remember her and mourn together.”
