United Airlines expands nonstop flights from Washington DC to Lagos

United Airlines expands nonstop flights from Washington DC to Lagos

United Airlines has announced that it will increase service between Lagos and Washington DC from three times a week to daily flights between December 4, 2024 and February 14, 2025, representing a 133% year-over-year increase in seat capacity for that period.

This is the first time United has offered a daily flight between Lagos and Washington DC. The flight remains the only overnight flight from Lagos to the United States. This gives customers in Nigeria more travel options to Washington DC and convenient daytime travel to destinations across America.

Since the launch of United service from Lagos to Washington in 2021, United has operated flights using state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft equipped with 28 United Polaris Business Class lie-flat seats, 21 United Premium Plus Premium Economy seats, 36 Economy Plus seats and 158 standard Economy seats.

The Dreamliner’s revolutionary design offers customers many features for greater comfort, such as large windows, spacious luggage racks and modern LED lighting to simulate a full day, allowing passengers to reset their internal clocks on the transatlantic flight.

“Africa continues to be an integral part of United’s global network and we are pleased to announce an expansion of flights from Lagos to Washington Dulles during the winter season on our state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliner,” said Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe, United’s country sales manager for Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.

“We are proud to offer our customers in Nigeria not only an even greater choice of trips when booking their next vacation to the USA, but also convenient direct connections to over 70 destinations across America, including Houston, Chicago and New York/Newark.”

The increase in flights from Lagos to Washington DC comes as United expands its presence on the world’s second-largest continent this year by adding Marrakech, Morocco, to its network in Africa beginning October 25, 2024.

United will be the first and only airline to offer nonstop flights from Marrakech to the United States, as well as routes from Cape Town (South Africa) to New York/Newark and Washington DC, from Johannesburg (South Africa) to New York/Newark and from Accra (Ghana) to Washington DC
