Search for missing kayaker on Green Lake continues, boaters asked to be alert

The search for the 44-year-old kayaker has been ongoing since August 12.

GREEN LAKE – The search for a 44-year-old kayaker on Green Lake, which began on August 12, continues into its second week with no sign of him.

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the search with assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Bruce’s Legacy Search and Recovery.

Using GPS data from the kayaker’s cell phone, search teams were able to determine the search location by August 20 and find the kayak, a life jacket, a water bottle, a tackle box and a fishing rod, all belonging to the missing kayaker.

The sheriff’s office has been conducting an aerial search every morning when weather has permitted, and the DNR and Bruce’s Legacy have used underwater drones and towable submersible sonars to search the deepest areas of the lake.

According to the sheriff’s office, Bruce’s Legacy is also assisting in the search for a missing boater in Green Bay and is assessing conditions daily to determine where resources will be most effective for both searches.

The sheriff’s office is asking all boaters to be alert on the water, as removing floating trash also speeds up aerial searches and also keeps the lake clean.

Anyone who finds anything suspicious can also call 911 and contact the sheriff’s office. If possible, take a photo of the GPS coordinates.
