On Monday, a rare, super blue moon rose and lit up the sky – and it did not disappoint.
The lunar spectacle was observed all over the world and captured in breathtaking photographs.
Monday’s full moon was not only a supermoon, but also a blue moon – a rare event that usually occurs once every decade.
It was the first of four consecutive supermoons of the year, which occurs when the full moon is at or near its closest point to Earth.
A seasonal blue moon that rose on Monday is the third of four full moons in a single season instead of the usual three.
According to NASA, the super blue moon will appear full by Wednesday morning.
