Teacher confused because mother expects her to write party invitations for her student

A teacher posted a TikTok in which she vented her anger to her followers about a strange argument with the parents of one of her students over some birthday invitations.

TikTok user @ktlarson27 posted a video claiming that the mother of one of her students expected her to do virtually all of the work related to her child’s birthday invitations, including writing and filling them out.

She explained that the parents had asked her for a class list so she could invite all the kids to the party, and that she was actually going to send the invitations to the school so the OP could hand them out. The teacher was invited too. So far, so good. Very low key. Very thoughtful.

Things changed pretty quickly, however, when she realized that the invitations were being brought into the classroom unfilled. Despite this, the OP agreed to stuff them and place them in the mailbox of every child at school.

“I wanted to stuff the invitations and envelopes, stuff them because they weren’t stuffed, and then throw them in the mailboxes,” she said.

Then she opened the invitations and realized that none of them were addressed to anyone but her.

“I opened them. Only the first invitation was written down, the others weren’t. And that parent sent me a message later that day with the information, and I thought that was for me because I was invited. No, I should write all the invitations,” she explained.

“‘No,’ I replied. I can’t write all these invitations and I sent them home with the class list. Nope, I can’t do that. Bye …”

What on earth are parents thinking?! This is completely contrary to the duties of a teacher.

Several TikTok users shared their thoughts on their strange experience.

“When I heard ‘the envelopes weren’t full’ I was out. How the hell do parents think that’s okay?” asked one user.

Another joked: “Not surprising – you’re also hosting the party 😆 That’s why you were invited.”

“The fact that parents think teachers have time to address and wrap party invitations. We don’t have time to go to the bathroom, ma’am!!!” said another.

Another teacher wrote, “This happens all the time with Valentine’s cards. They just send a sealed box of Valentine’s cards and expect teachers to write names on them and put them in envelopes.”

Note to all parents: The teachers are neither your personal assistants nor your administrators!
