IRMO, SC (WIS) – The Irmo Fire Department (IFD) announced Tuesday that it battled a fire at an Irmo nursing facility overnight.

Fire officials said they were called to the Harbison Shores senior living facility in the 900 block of Columbia Avenue.

They said a washroom at the facility was damaged by the fire and two minor injuries were reported. The IFD said the remaining residents were safe while emergency crews worked to evacuate them while putting out the fire.

Crews remained at Harbison Shores until 5:00 a.m. to ensure smoke was cleared from the building and to assist residents in returning to their apartments.

According to IFD, crews from the Columbia-Richland Fire Department (CRFD) and Lexington County Fire Department (LCFD) helped extinguish the fire, while Lexington County EMS assisted with evacuation and care.

IFD Deputy Fire Chief Sloane Valentino said the fire was believed to be accidental, but there is currently no official cause.
