He described the lack of compliance with recent policy updates as “unacceptable”.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has sent a letter to the CEOs of the 10 largest U.S. airlines reinforcing the airlines’ updated policies, which require the companies to refund passengers on canceled flights.

The FAA Reauthorization Act implemented this change on May 16, making cash refunds the automatic response for canceled flights and establishing procedures for passengers selecting vouchers for another flight. However, airlines have been slow to consistently implement these changes. Secretary Buttigieg reminded company management that continued violations could result in government action.

“Over the past few weeks, we have heard reports of unacceptable deficiencies in customer service and received thousands of complaints about airline air travel services,” Secretary Buttigieg wrote, before outlining airline policy requirements under the new law.

“A thriving commercial aviation industry in the United States is good for all Americans, and all of our regulatory and enforcement actions are aimed at ensuring that this industry thrives on a foundation of excellent safety, fair and vigorous competition, and strong customer service,” he added.

Pray with us as the Lord shows you…

  • For Secretary Buttigieg, who wants to ensure compliance with federal regulations on refunds for flight cancellations.
  • For Administrator Whitaker, may God provide leadership for the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • U.S. transportation authorities must exercise caution in monitoring safety in the industry.
