Luckily, TikToker, blogger, and mom Haylie Grammer (@hayliegrammer) has shared a clever trick for parents whose kids receive an excessive amount of gifts during the holidays.

This stress-free party dish is perfect for last-minute preparation:

In the clip, Haylie turns to the camera and asks: “Do your children get way too much for Christmas, including what you buy for them?”

“Well, I do,” Grammer admits jokingly.

To spread the gift-giving, Grammer has her child open a present every day in December until Christmas.

For each daily gift selected, Grammer also has her daughter choose one of her old toys to donate.

“So she has to swap,” Grammer says, explaining, “In order to unwrap a gift, she has to choose (a toy) that she wants to give away. And that’s a lot harder for her than I think she realizes.”

The clip then switches to a shot of her daughter’s colorfully decorated Christmas tree, full of ornaments and surrounded by presents wrapped in matching wrapping paper.

“If she’s a good girl, at the end of the day she gets to choose one of her old toys to donate, and then she gets to choose a new gift from her stash,” Grammer notes, adjusting the camera to show the entire display.

Grammer’s recent hack provoked strong reactions from some viewers.

“No kid needs 25-30 gifts,” one user commented, and someone chimed in and politely reminded him that Grammer plans to donate.

Another viewer reacted in exactly the opposite way and jokingly asked: “Can you adopt me?”

No matter how you distribute gifts this holiday season, it’s always a good idea to teach children the importance of generosity and kindness.
