COLORADO SPRINGS – Pikes Peak United Way says they are assisting parents and students with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now through August 31.
FAFSA is an online form that parents and students must complete each year to receive financial aid. It includes federal grants, student financial aid, and student loans.
Completing the FAFSA application is free, but Pikes Peak United Way recognizes that families may have difficulty accurately completing the required information, so Pikes Peak United Way staff are available by appointment to assist families on-site.
“We are here to help,” said Cindy Aubrey, CEO of United Way. “Our career readiness team is available to help you complete the federal form, which is mandatory for students who need government assistance to finance their education.”
FAFSA was updated this year and requires families to create verified accounts that include identification, contributing parent or spouse information, and income information.
According to Pikes Peak United Way, completing the form can be challenging, especially for families of first-time college students in their family.
“We are happy to be able to provide this support to local families,” Aubrey said. “Please reach out to us and we will help you get the federal assistance you need for college.”
