The director of Toy Story 5 has been officially confirmed. The news was announced at Disney’s D23 event and confirmed recent rumors about who might direct the upcoming sequel.
Previously there were rumors that Andrew Stanton would direct Toy Story 5The opportunity was exciting for fans, as Stanton is heavily involved in the franchise and has co-written all four previous Toy history Films. He also has extensive experience as a director at Pixar and has worked in this role on other successful animated films such as Finding Nemo, Finding DoryAnd WALL EDuring the D23 showcase it was officially announced that Stanton will indeed direct Toy Story 5.
Plot details have not been revealed yet, but Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will return to reprise their respective voice roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The fifth installment in the franchise will be released almost seven years after the release of Toy Story 4which was released in cinemas in 2019. Toy Story 5 was officially announced in February 2023 and is said to be in the works along with other major sequels such as Zootopia 2 And Frozen 3.
“One wonders if four was too many,” said Allen in a Tonight Show Interview. “Would five be too many? Rumor has it that the writer who’s working on it wrote one of the better ones and said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it.’ So it could be a very, very interesting way to bring the two back together.”
Toy Story 5 will be released in theaters on June 19, 2026.
