boxer John Gotti III admits that he was overwhelmed by the hype surrounding his first fight with Floyd Mayweather … but only one week before the rematch, John Gotti‘s grandson warns the 50-0 fighter not to expect a repeat in the rematch!
“It was a big moment. It was the biggest crowd I’ve ever fought in front of. It was against a living legend. And (Floyd) came out with bad intentions and caught me completely off guard,” said 31-year-old Gotti III TMZ Sports of the scrap from June 2023.
The fight was finally stopped in the 6th round after a lot of trash talk between the men. Although the fight was stopped, Floyd and John were not finished with the fight, because a brawl started in the ring and around the arena.
Stormy (May) weather: Boxing reaches new heights

Now Mayweather and Gotti III are set to rematch on August 24 in Mexico City… and according to John, things will be different.
“Now I know what to expect. The first time, I didn’t really know what to expect,” Gotti III said, adding, “I’ve been mentally preparing for this for the last year and training for this moment. So, you know, all I can do is show up and fight as hard as I can.”
Gotti III started out as an MMA fighter (he has a 5-1 record, last fighting in 2020)… while Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer of all time, so does John think he can actually win?
He does, damn right he does.
“I really believe I can win. The progress I’ve made from last year to today, including mentally, has made me a completely new fighter.”
As for the post-fight antics, John says to expect none of that this time. The fight begins and ends with the ringing of the bell… but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some resentment between the guys.
“It’s a boxing match, but I think it’s a matter between him and I as men, you know, it’s a little bit personal, and we want to settle this like men, you know, we don’t want any interference, no nonsense like the last fight, just him and me, and when it’s over we’ll shake hands and go our separate ways.”
Gotti III clarified: “In the ring, of course, it’s a personal matter between the two of us, but outside of it, I wish Floyd only the best.”
There’s a lot more to John, including… what would his infamous grandfather have thought about his grandson fighting one of the most legendary fighters of all time?
“I’m sure he would have had a blast. From what my dad told me about my (grandfather), he would have loved to rip Floyd’s head off when all this was happening, but I’m sure he would admire my fighting spirit and my heart and appreciate the fact that I’m on the front lines for my name.”
“You know, I’m fighting to have my name respected and to have a positive influence on my family, so I’m sure he appreciates that.”
