A protester stormed the stage at the Democratic National Convention welcoming party on August 18 to denounce Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party’s role in funding Israel’s war against Hamas.
A video from protest organizer Direct Actions for Palestine shows a demonstrator running onto the stage at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier in Chicago on Sunday.
The protester said into a microphone: “150,000 people are dead. They are funding a genocide. The Harris-Biden administration continues to send money to Israel,” until they were pushed away by event staff.
Several people in the audience started chanting “Free, free Palestine.”
The organizers of the protests issued a press release after Sunday’s actions denouncing the ties of Democratic politicians to the pro-Israel lobby. AIPACand the Biden administration for funding Israel and “aiding and abetting genocide at the federal level.”
“While Joe Biden and Kamala Harris continue to support genocide at the federal level, Governor JB Pritzker is contributing to that aid here in Illinois,” the press release said. “Not only has he authorized the purchase of over $120 million in Israel bonds using Illinois state funds, but he also plans to spend over $900 million to build two new prisons in Illinois. Pritzker’s policies in Illinois mirror the same policies of mass death and incarceration of Biden and Harris.”
“The Democratic administration is weaponizing fear of a Trump presidency while simultaneously committing genocide at home and abroad. As the U.S. ramps up its bipartisan political theater, Kamala Harris is being touted as the ‘less evil’ alternative to the far right,” the press release said. “We will not stand idly by while elected officials continue to invest in genocide in Gaza and state violence at home.”
“The U.S. government, both Democrats and Republicans, must be held accountable for their historic role in the genocide and occupation of the Palestinian people,” the press release said. Source: @directactions4palestine via Storyful
