JJ Watt visits Steelers facility and shares photo in weight room

Former NFL defensive lineman JJ Watt posted a cryptic tweet on Twitter this Monday afternoon of himself on the field and practicing at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ UPMC South Side facility.

Watt, the brother of Steelers star OLB TJ Watt, worked out at the facility last year before Pittsburgh’s Thursday Night Football game against the Titans, which he attended. Now, in a position at CBS he’s held since last season, he’s likely just visiting his brother and checking out the facilities on a player’s day off.

However, this will not end the rumors that JJ could return to the league after he addressed related comeback rumors last season and said that the Steelers were one of the teams he was watching.

This probably means pretty much nothing since Watt is either at the facility visiting his brother or working for CBS, but for the Steelers, who went all out this offseason by signing Russell Wilson and Patrick Queen, it’s at least worth noting that JJ is at Pittsburgh’s facility today.

TJ hasn’t played in the preseason yet, but is hoping to win Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second time after being passed over for 2023. TJ will be a key building block for Pittsburgh’s defense this season, as he has been since he was signed in 2017. Adding his brother to the defense would certainly be something, though again, it’s incredibly unlikely to happen.

TJ has yet to win a playoff game, and his hopes of doing so would certainly be boosted if JJ was a member of Pittsburgh’s defense. But with TJ, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Cameron Heyward, and Patrick Queen, there’s enough star power to still make the Steelers’ defense one of the best units in the league.

The question for the Steelers will be whether their offense is enough to get them over the hump. Pittsburgh’s offense has put on an ugly performance in the two preseason games, but hopefully they can score enough points this season as they have one of the best defenses in the league on the other end.
