The Dolphins have one of the most confusing and valuable backfields in fantasy football. We’ll explain it to you.

The Miami Dolphins have one of the most polarizing and valuable backfields in fantasy football. Fantasy owners are excited by the talent and potential of the Dolphins’ running backs, but also concerned about their uncertainty and fragility. While it’s always difficult when you have a two-running back field, Miami could end up with a four-running back system. We’ll break down each running back for you.

ADP: 22

Achane is perhaps the most explosive and dynamic running back in the NFL. As a rookie, he exceeded efficiency metrics and put up tons of fantasy points despite limited opportunities and injury issues. However, those opportunity and injury concerns remain, which is why he is only drafted as RB10 off the board.

In 2023, he averaged an incredible 7.8 yards per carry, ran for 800 yards and eight touchdowns on just 103 carries, and added 27 pass catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns in just 11 games.

While he feels like a no-brainer, his 5’10” height and 195 lbs weight complicate things. We don’t know how much work the team will give him, and it’s hard not to worry about injuries when he’s already missed six games as a rookie despite limited action.

There’s a good argument to be made that Achane may have the most upside in all of fantasy football, but he’s also one of the riskiest picks. Drafting him in the second round isn’t for the faint of heart, but it could still result in you holding a trophy at the end of the year.

ADP: 73.7

Mostert is criminally underrated by the fantasy community, having been drafted in the seventh round. Last season, he tied for the NFL’s all-time leader with 21 TDs and finished the season as the RB2 despite missing two games.

This is a back who just got a contract extension from Miami and will probably still have the most runs in the backfield this year, or at worst, equal the number of runs. For him to be available in the seventh round is crazy.

Achane isn’t what fantasy owners should be worried about, though. The duo has proven they can both produce at a disproportionately high level when both are healthy and playing. Injuries are the biggest concern when it comes to Mostert.

He had a career year in 2023 at age 31, but was relatively healthy, missing only two games. We say relatively healthy because he has only played one full season in the NFL, in 2019. He has played nine NFL seasons, and during that time he has been one of the most injury-plagued players in the league.

In nine seasons, he has played in 80 games and missed 57 games. Still, we saw his potential and outstanding fantasy performance last season, so he’s more than worth the risk at his current price. Similar to Achane, his efficiency is on a whole other level, as his career production of 5.2 yards per carry is one of the three best all-time. It wouldn’t be fair to expect him to repeat what he did last season, but even if he scores just half the TDs he did last season, he would far exceed his ADP and be a valuable player for your fantasy team.

ADP: 155

The explosive rookie is cut from the same cloth as most of the Dolphins’ offensive linemen and has top-notch speed. Although he’s currently ranked third in the backfield, he was considered a promising running back in this year’s draft and has already made waves this preseason.

There’s no guarantee Wright will play, but he could be a league-winner if Achane or Mostert get injured. This player is worth taking if your roster is big enough. However, you shouldn’t bank on using him early in the season, and there’s a chance he won’t even be on the field that much. Dynasty players should do everything they can to get him on their roster, though. He’ll be special.

– ADP: Not drafted

This may not be who you expected. is widely viewed as the RB4 in Miami. While most people agree, I expect Brooks to be elevated to the active roster and take that job.

More importantly, Brooks poses a bigger threat to Mostert and Achane’s fantasy value than Wright. Wright has star potential but possesses a similar skill set to the two stars. However, Brooks is a bigger running back who could steal touchdowns from the Dolphins’ dynamic duo.

It’s unlikely he’ll be used often enough this year to be a valuable fantasy player, but he could be a much bigger factor in this offense than fantasy owners expect.
