A series of interactive workshops, delivered by fully trained camp staff and American Airlines flight instructors, help participants develop critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills. At the same time, through field trips and conversations with current employees, youth gain insight into the various career opportunities in aviation, from pilots and flight attendants to engineers and graphic designers.

The camp, which is just one of several initiatives sponsored by American Airlines in the Dallas area, has won several awards in recent years, including the 2022 Best in DFW – Gold award for summer camps in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Earlier this summer, the oneworld member airline sponsored 56 students from all backgrounds at Clinton P. Russell Elementary to attend one of its fully funded Aviation STEM Summer Camps. The school is located in Dallas, Texas – home of American Airlines’ largest hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Principal Chara Pace shared her excitement about the opportunity, saying:

“The camp provided our students with an invaluable insight into aviation. It was truly the experience of a lifetime, opening doors and sparking dreams that will shape their futures. Our students returned with a clear vision of their possible futures in the aviation industry, exploring careers from aircraft mechanics and engineers to pilots and flight attendants.”

Although pricing for next year’s camp has not yet been announced, this year’s camp will cost $375 for the five-day experience. Sponsorship may be available, and eligible members of American Airlines’ loyalty program, AAdvantage, are also eligible for discounted rates and early registration.
