On August 6, children at the Chapin Library branch celebrated the completion of their summer reading goals. The “The Adventure Begins at Your Library” program promoted the joy of reading with several forms of free entertainment for families.
Inspired by Mo Willems’ book “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus,” free hot dogs, chips, water and popsicles were offered. Children also had the opportunity to interact with several small, cuddly animals at the petting zoo. Activities such as face painting and balloon animals were popular, as was learning about the importance of kindness with Henry the Hedgehog from Mission Lexington.
“The Adventure Begins at Your Library” ran from June 1 to August 10. Children tracked their reading using the Beanstack app or a paper tracking card. When they reached their goal, they received a tote bag filled with age-appropriate gifts such as stickers, water bottles or stuffed animals. The names of those who completed the program will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize of a new tent. The winner will be contacted after all parties at the library branches are complete.
