We are looking for a Rights Assistant to join our successful Children’s Rights team at Bloomsbury Children’s Books to provide administrative support to the Rights Managers responsible for selling licenses and co-editions.

Bloomsbury Children’s Books has a fantastic range of children’s books, from first picture books to chapter books, illustrated books and young adult books. Bloomsbury Children’s was named Children’s Publisher of the Year 2024 at the British Book Awards and the Rights team, along with our colleagues in International Sales, won the International Award at the Independent Publishing Awards and were nominated for Rights Professionals of the Year at the British Book Awards.

The Rights Assistant will play a key role within the Rights team and the business. This is an exciting opportunity for a Rights Assistant with a lot of experience who is looking for a new challenge or an entry level role.

The role reports to the Head of Children’s Rights.

The role

  • General administrative support, including but not limited to processing contracts, free orders, sending translated author copies and providing electronic files
  • Manage co-edition fulfillment, including uploading proposals to Biblio, meeting schedules, retrieving client files and approving materials, and invoicing
  • Answer internal and external inquiries from colleagues, customers and authors
  • Support the rights team in preparing important book fairs and sales trips
  • Support the rights team in the administrative management of our key fiction brands, including but not limited to Harry Potter and Sarah J. Maas
  • Support in the creation of rights guidelines and catalogues
  • Maintaining and updating our industry-leading rights website
  • Creating and sending email newsletters to customers and maintaining contact lists
  • Sell ​​covers, illustrations and marketing materials to international publishing partners

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Interest in selling rights and passion for books
  • Good knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications
  • Confident use of creative/design software such as Photoshop and email marketing software
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage varying workloads and identify priorities effectively
    Time management skills, attention to detail and a positive attitude towards problem solving
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills
  • Interest in other countries and cultures

More information

The role is full-time

Salary point: £27,000

The role is based in our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP and is based on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days in office / 3 days from home (or fully office based if preferred). The office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday

As an assistant, this role is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Tenancy Deposit Loan Scheme. To support candidates looking to start and build a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free tenancy deposit to help secure accommodation. The tenancy deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and is repaid over 2 years.
