Robert De Niro caused a stir on his 81st birthday by jumping off a yacht, according to a video posted on Instagram by his daughter Drena De Niro. The video shows the veteran actor jumping from a height of 36 feet into the blue sea, with Drena exclaiming, “Wow, he’s so crazy,” and later asking, “Oh my God, are you OK?” to which De Niro replies, “Yes, I’m OK.”
Drena’s Instagram tribute included photos of De Niro with her late son Leandro, who tragically died of an accidental overdose last year. Drena’s post was a heartfelt celebration, captioned, “Happy 81st birthday dad and #1 ride or die… I love you with all my heart ♥️♥️♥️ #BobbyD forever ✨👑✨.”
Robert De Niro, who shares Drena with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott, also has five other children: twins Julian and Aaron, 28, son Elliot, 26, and daughters Helen Grace, 12, and Gia, born in April 2023.
De Niro previously spoke about the pain of losing Leandro in an interview with People, expressing his shock and continued regret over the tragedy. “I never thought it would happen. And then I just started thinking about all the things I could have done with him, maybe should have done,” De Niro said.
Drena’s obituary was both a joyful celebration and a poignant reminder of the family’s recent loss.
