Bargain hunters for student apartments at ReStore

In the next few weeks, it’s move-in time for thousands of college students across the region. We know families are looking for affordable furniture to save some money when moving into student apartments and dorms, so we’ve asked Habitat for Humanity ReStores for help.

What you need to know

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStores are donation centers that sell new and used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public.
  • Habitat ReStores are operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations

Habitat for Humanity has ReStore locations in Greater Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and New York City. Here you can find inexpensive furniture, decor, building materials and appliances. Proceeds from ReStore sales help Habitat for Humanity build more homes for those in need.

“It’s mostly about selection by room or type of product,” said Dan Petronio, director of Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity ReStores. “If you’re looking for something, we have it. We have a Hamilton Beach microwave here in this store that would be pretty expensive in the store. It’s $20 here.”

Everything at ReStore is donated and some items are new.

“Families often come by and need to furnish their dining and living rooms. And that’s easy here with the low prices,” says Jordan Stanford, store manager of ReStore in Webster.

“In New York State, Habitat has built over 800 homes in the last 14 years. The money from your local ReStores goes directly into your community and helps with the homes you may drive past every day,” Pertronio said.

By shopping, donating or volunteering at Habitat ReStores, you help keep usable home improvement items out of landfills and create affordable housing.
