The Frozen Franchise has been one of the most famous in modern Disney history since the release of the first film in 2013. Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the first Frozen introduces audiences to Idina Menzel as Princess Elsa of Arendelle and Kristen Bell as her younger sister Anna. When her kingdom is trapped in eternal winter due to Elsa’s developing powers, Anna teams up with mountain climber Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), his reindeer sidekick, and comical snowman Olaf (Josh Gad) to save Elsa and her kingdom.

The film became an overnight pop culture phenomenon and a favorite of many children thanks to its colorful characters and catchy, beautifully performed songs. Frozen received critical acclaim, grossed over a billion dollars at the box office, and was hailed by many as the best Disney film since the studio’s Renaissance era.

Not only that, Frozen was showered with awards, winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature, the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Feature, and two Grammy Awards.

“Frozen 3” is just one of several sequels Disney is working on

Of course, with such a success there must be sequels. But it took a while and the production was a bit problematic before Frozen 2 was released in 2019. Again directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Frozen 2 finds Elsa unsettled while ruling Arendelle. After hearing a mysterious voice calling to her, Elsa journeys to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom – an adventure that soon turns into a journey of self-discovery.
