As he begins his preparations for the 2024-25 NBA season, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has added a unique addition to his training routine.

On Sunday, the reigning NBA Finals MVP shared photos of his underwater exercises on social media that went viral:

Brown posted the photos while on vacation in Manama, Bahrain. Some, like Celtics legend Kevin Garnett, believe the intense training indicates the 27-year-old is headed for a big year this season.

This shit could be over for everyone ☘️🔥🤝🏾

Brown revealed for the first time his underwater training during the 2022 offseason with a video on social media where he can be seen doing squat jumps, backflips and other exercises while holding dumbbells underwater:

After helping lead the Celtics to their first NBA title since 2008, Brown spoke with YouTuber KT The Arch Degree in June and discussed how underwater training has helped him:

“The more I’ve been in the water, the more I’ve seen my body change over the last few years,” said Brown after 18:40 minutes. “I’ve just become more athletic, I’ve gotten faster, I’ve gotten bigger and stronger, and I attribute that mostly to my improved relationship with the water.”

Brown further revealed that he completed exercises normally reserved for Navy SEALs, such as swimming laps in a 10-foot pool wearing a 50-pound vest.

After not being named to the roster for the U.S. team that won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics this summer, Brown was expected to be extra motivated to have a big year in 2024-25. These workouts will make him even more effective as he carries momentum from the 2024 playoffs into this season.
