Big Blue Football relies on new regime to pave the way

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – The Bluefield State University football team went just one and nine in the 2023 season.

The Bulldogs football program has not recorded a win in three years (2021), four and three.

So the school decided it was time to bring some new faces into the team.

Davon Morgan, a former NFL player for the Jets and Eagles, was named in charge last March and has taken on a lot of responsibility.

He has brought in a number of new coaches with experience in both the NFL and Division 1 and has also transferred several players from various schools across the country.

While every team is focused on going far in the postseason and securing the championship title, Coach Morgan and his staff are not just focused on this year.

He and his coaches have made it their mission to develop the players for their future, not only in football but also in life.

He preaches how to build a family, but at the same time makes sure that guests keep a clear head.

Among other things, he tries to teach his team that “rent is due every day” and that “success can never be owned, you have to rent it.”

Just by being in the middle of training, you can see that these players are already convinced by what he is preaching. But why wouldn’t you be when you have a track record and resume like he and his team have?

The Bulldogs will play their first game on August 31st at 6:00 p.m. against Winston-Salem State University at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, WV.
