Wolves Club hosts Ellwood City track and field teams and Riverside baseball, cross country and track teams. – News from Ellwood City, PA

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met at its shelter in Ewing Park on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. President Mike DeOtto opened the meeting by introducing the guests, including the coaches and members of the Ellwood City Track and Riverside baseball, cross country and track teams.

The club presented Pro Bono Publico Awards to members of the Ellwood City and Riverside baseball, cross country and track and field teams for their outstanding performances at regional and state championships and for setting school records in 2023.

Awards were given to:

  • Ellwood basketball player Joe Roth scored a total of 2,000 points in his high school career.
  • Ellwood Track Team members Colten Crizer, Drew Steffler, Nick Wise, Nick Franitti and Bradley Custer set a school record and took second place in the WPIAL finals of the two-mile relay.
  • Ellwood track team members Darius Custer, Nick Franitti, Nick Wise and Colten Crizer also set a school record and took second place in the 1-mile relay at the WPIAL Championship.
  • Colten Crizer set a school record and became 800m champion at the WPIAL Championships.
  • Nick Franitti also set a school record and became WPIAL champion in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles.
  • Lexi Fluharty, a member of the Riverside cross country team, set a school record and took first place at the WPIAL and third place at the PIAA championships.
  • Reece Sullivan, a member of the Riverside track team, took first place in the WPIAL pole vault and seventh place in the pole vault at the PIAA Championships.
  • Hunter Gavin, player of the Riverside Baseball Team, is first in AAA All State Baseball. Player Zack Hare is the best player in AAA Baseball All State.

Missing from the presentation were Riverside Cross Country Team members Brooke Wissinger (WPIAL 13th place), Devon Montileone (WPIAL 8th place) and baseball player Zack Hare, AAA All State best player.

The Wolves Club’s motto is “Pro Bono Publico,” which means “For the Benefit of the Public.” The Wolves Club participates in various community events and hosts its own programs to fund its scholarship programs. New members are always welcome. During the summer, the club meets every second and fourth Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at its shelter in Ewing Park.
