Cancel Young Sheldon was a mistake and Missy’s new future is proof of that. Standing on the shoulders of The Big Bang Theory, CBS had an instant hit with the prequel when it premiered in 2017. In any case, introducing a new show around Jim Parsons’ popular Sheldon Cooper already sounded like a great plan. However, what led to Young Sheldon one of the best comedies of recent years was the ensemble. As the series grew beyond its original premise, the focus expanded to include the rest of the Cooper family, including Sheldon’s twin sister.
Missy was barely there The Big Bang Theoryonly two physical appearances. Nevertheless, she managed to make an impression with her wit and charm. The only daughter of George and Mary is often compared to Kaley Cuoco’s Penny and has similar characteristics to Leonard’s wife in the nerd-centric sitcom. Unfortunately Young Sheldon still understaffed Missy despite her appeal. To make matters worse, she was initially excluded from Georgie & Mandy’s first marriage because Raegan Revord said she was not invited. CBS has since changed that, but a new development proves that pulling the plug on Young Sheldon was wrong.

Granted, the series needed some changes, starting with the title, but CBS could have found a way to continue it as it was without starting a new project.

Georgie & Mandy’s first marriage is trying to break new ground, and that is commendable. However, it cannot do so without strengthening its ties to Young Sheldon. Having Mary, Meemaw and Missy only in the first two episodes would not be nearly enough to create a connection between the two series, especially since the sequel is only a few months after the Young Sheldon Finale. The expansion of Missy’s role could be an indication that CBS is rethinking its original decision to minimize the Coopers’ involvement in the new series.

While spoiler details have been retained, some relevant information about Missy’s role in Georgie & Mandy’s first marriage was revealed. First, she will end her rebellious phase in the Young Sheldon To be continued. Revord’s character began misbehaving in Season 6, and while she stayed out of trouble in Season 7, George’s unexpected death caused her to freak out to deal with the tragic loss. This will continue in Season 6. Georgie & Mandy’s first marriageand maybe even get worse.
The original spinoff of The Big Bang Theory might have been better suited to tell this story, as other characters the siblings know outside of their family, such as Dale, Brenda, and Pastor Jeff, could have been involved.
Secondly, a large part of Georgie’s storyline in the series involves looking after his sister while also caring for his own wife and young daughter. Given this ongoing storyline, it’s safe to assume that Missy will appear in a significant number of episodes in the upcoming comedy. Ultimately, renaming Young Sheldon To The Coopers would have allowed CBS to tell both storylines. Admittedly, Georgie & Mandy’s first marriage can focus on its title characters, but the last few seasons of The Big Bang Theory The prequel proved that their narrative can coexist with the Coopers’ storyline. That way, the network wouldn’t have to start a new show. Most importantly, they can not only feature Missy on a regular basis, but also bring Mary and Meemaw back as main characters. There are so many stories still to be told about all of them.
