Pixar officially produces “Toy Story 5”

It’s official. Pixar is making a fifth Toy history Film.

As officially confirmed at D23, the film is scheduled to hit theaters in two years.

As part of the announcement, Pixar also showed the first teaser for the film and revealed a piece of early concept art. The message of this sequel: In this film, the toys must learn to compete with technology. Note the glowing screen in the first piece of concept art Pixar shows below, which features Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and their new friend from Toy Story 4Fork.

The latest sequel, Toy Story 4was released on June 11, 2019. Although it didn’t receive quite as much critical acclaim as the earlier films, it still grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. At D23, Disney announced that Andrew Stanton – the longtime Pixar writer and director who previously directed Pixar’s WALL E And Finding Nemo (and was co-author of all previous Toy historys) — will act as both writer and director for Toy Story 5.

Toy Story 4 ended with Woody and Buzz going their separate ways; Woody decided to leave Bonnie behind to start a new life with Bo, while Buzz, Jessie, and most of the old Toy Story gang stayed behind. The teaser and concept art make it clear that Woody, Buzz, and Jessie are all back in the new film, so they’ll have to find a way to bring the characters back together.

Toy Story 5 is currently scheduled to hit theaters in summer 2026.
