Tragedy: Mother and five children die after eating a local delicacy in Kano – Police reaction

State Police Spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the incident and said the six family members who ate the food were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

“We are still waiting for the medical report from the hospital to determine the cause of death of the six people,” he said.

How the widow and children died

As reported by Daily Trust, the incident occurred on Thursday, August 15, at the house of the late Malam Abdulkarin.

A neighbour of the family, Garba Muhammad, told Daily Trust that the widow, who was responsible for supporting her five children, used expired cassava flour to prepare food due to economic difficulties and hunger.

“The consumption of the food led to the death of six family members, including the mother.”
