Heavy traffic at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow as 30,000 people make their way to the military terminal

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KKTV) – Saturday is the first day of the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow. Thirty thousand visitors are expected to attend the weekend of August 17 and 18. Tickets for the weekend sold out within ten days.

Organizers had warned earlier in the week of possible road closures along Powers Boulevard. Due to the event, there was heavy traffic on the streets on Saturday morning.

“We’re working with numerous partners and PDs and have hundreds of volunteers on site all weekend to help us with this,” said Lauren DeMarco, marketing manager for Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, regarding traffic. “I would just say come early, have your tickets ready and know our team is working as best they can to make sure it’s safe for everyone.”

The event includes military flight demonstrations of various aircraft, over 80 vendors, food, souvenir programs, US Navy Blue Angels merchandise and much more! Before or after the air show, visitors can walk the Hot Ramp and get a closer look at the historic aircraft.

“We have a lot of static exhibits, like the osprey here, where people can get really close,” DeMarco said.
