Perdue Foods LLC recalls frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tender products

WASHINGTON, August 16, 2024 – Perdue Foods LLC, a Perry, Georgia company, is recalling approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tenders products that may be contaminated with foreign material, particularly metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tenders were manufactured on March 23, 2024. The following products are affected by the recall (see labels):

  • 22 oz. (1.38 lbs.) vacuum sealed plastic packages of “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with a best before date of “03 23 25” on the back of the package.
  • 29 oz. (1.81 lbs.) vacuum sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS” with a best before date of “03 23 25” on the back of the package.
  • 22 oz. (1.38 lbs.) vacuum sealed packages of “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” with a best before date of “03 23 25” on the back of the package.

The recalled products have the company number “P-33944” on the back of the packaging. These items were shipped to retail stores nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.

The problem was discovered after the company received consumer complaints about metal wires embedded in the product and notified FSIS of the issue.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumption of these products. Anyone who suspects injury or illness should contact a healthcare professional.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS regularly conducts recall effectiveness reviews to ensure that recalling companies are notifying their customers of the recall and that steps are being taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. Once the retail distribution list(s) are available, they will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
