Dakota Johnson’s painful experience in “Fifty Shades of Grey” could explain why she went crazy promoting “Madame Web”

Hollywood star Dakota Johnson returned to the screen and took on the title role in the superhero film Madame Web. However, the film was widely panned as one of the worst superhero movies. It became notorious not only for its lukewarm reception, but also for Johnson’s blunt and disinterested attitude during promotion.

However, their behavior may not be entirely surprising given their challenging experience with the Fifty shades of grey Franchise, a chapter that has had a significant impact on her career. And it could also explain why she was so successful in promoting Madame Web.

Dakota Johnson had her breakthrough in the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty shades of grey film series. Although the films were panned by critics, they were very successful at the box office, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide.

However, directing was anything but easy for Johnson, as there were constant conflicts between the studio, the director, and the book’s author, EL James. Johnson described the production of the franchise as chaos, attributing much of the chaos to James’ controlling influence during production.

“I committed myself to making a completely different version of the film, which we then made,” she revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair. She read the monologue from the Swedish psychodrama from 1966, personabelieved during her audition that the project had the potential to be something special.

However, James, who had significant creative control, often clashed with other people involved. Johnson described the whole situation as a battle, as she explained:

She had a lot of creative control all day, every day, and just demanded that certain things happen. There were parts of the books that just didn’t work in a movie – it was always a struggle. Always.

Tensions escalated, however, after Charlie Hunnam, who was originally Johnson’s counterpart, dropped out of the film. Johnson recalled being scared when James scrapped the entire script, further complicating the already turbulent production.

Charlie Hunnam was cast alongside Johnson as Christian Grey, but left the project due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Jamie Dornan. And his departure led to the entire script being scrapped Fifty shades of grey Author EL James.

Reflecting on the experience, Johnson admitted: “I was young. I was 23. So it was scary.” She described the situation as “something crazy.” The actress also admitted that there were numerous disagreements that she could not speak openly about.

After Patrick Marber revised the script, there were repeated disagreements about what writer EL James wanted and what the cast and crew wanted to achieve. Despite these challenges, she expressed pride in the final product and acknowledged that it was difficult to market the film truthfully.

Madame Web The band also reportedly had to contend with chaotic production problems, particularly with regard to the connection of the film with the existing Spider Man series and its connections to characters like Venom.

The constant changes and conflicts may explain the perceived distance Johnson displayed while promoting the film, which led to her interviews being described as crazy.
