The 30-year-old South African Du Plessis is defending his 185-pound belt for the first time. The 35-year-old Nigerian-born New Zealander and former titleholder Adesanya could become a three-time champion. The championship fight is scheduled for five rounds.
At the official weigh-in, Dricus du Plessis weighed in at 185 pounds. Israel Adesanya weighed in at 184 pounds. The ceremonial weigh-in ended with an intense showdown.
New Zealander Kai Kara-France and former Australian flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg were also in the weight bracket for their three-round co-main event. Kara-France weighed in at 125 pounds. Erceg weighed in at 125.5 pounds.
Lightweights Mateusz Gamrot of Poland and Dan Hooker of New Zealand weighed in at 156 pounds and 155.5 pounds, respectively. Australian heavyweight Tai Tuivasa weighed in at 265 pounds in his fight against Jairzinho Rozenstruik of Suriname, who weighed in at 259 pounds. And Li Jingliang of China and Carlos Prates of Brazil weighed in at 171 pounds and 170 pounds, respectively, in their welterweight bout.
Mexican Jesus Santos Aguilar missed weight for his flyweight fight against Stewart Nicoll by 1.5 pounds. At the morning weigh-in, Aguilar showed 127.5 pounds, while Australian Nicoll weighed 126 pounds. Aguilar was penalized 20% of his show money, according to the UFC. The fight will proceed in catchweight mode.
