Green Day have composed the soundtrack to a new skate short film called “Monsters and Saviors” – check it out below.

Edited and directed by Russell Houghten, the 11-minute film is a collaboration between the band and Monster Energy and features a huge skate crew coming together to celebrate the band’s North American “Saviors” tour.

The tour celebrates the band’s new eponymous album, which came out in January, as well as the 30th anniversary of their groundbreaking album “Dookie” and the 20th anniversary of the equally groundbreaking “American Idiot.” The film uses a track from each album for reference – “Longview” from “Dookie,” the title track from “American Idiot” and “Bobby Sox” from “Saviors.”

“There’s no denying that Green Day’s legacy in the skate scene is anything but iconic,” Monster said in a statement. “So to celebrate the Saviors tour, it was only right to release a skate film, featuring soundtracks of classics from Dookie and American Idiot and (a future classic) from their new album Saviors.”

The film features 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Nyjah Huston, Jake Yanko, Giovanni Vianna, Gabriel Fortunato, Filipe Mota, Jhancarlos Gonzalez, Fabiana Delfino, Liam Pace, Kieran Woolley, Matt Berger, Tom Schaar, Ruby Lilley, Yam Behar, Rune Glifberg, Trey Wood, Elliot Sloan, Moto Shibata, Cocona Hiraki and Edouard Damestoy.

In a five-star review of Green Day’s “Saviors” tour in Manchester in June, NME wrote: “With Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer all performing in the UK later this month, to say rock fans are spoilt for choice is an understatement. Best of all, though, is probably Green Day’s ‘Saviors’ tour: it combines class, youthfulness and grungy punk anthems into a quintessential stadium rock event.”

Last week, the band announced an expanded 20th anniversary reissue of American Idiot, featuring a new documentary and several unreleased tracks.

The upcoming box sets include 15 unreleased “American Idiot” demos, a 15-track live show from 2004 recorded at Irving Plaza in New York City, nine previously unreleased live recordings (including a cover of Queen’s “We Are The Champions”) and 14 songs that were previously only available as B-sides and bonus tracks.

In addition, one of the Blu-rays contains a brand new, 110-minute documentary entitled 20 years of American IdiotThe other CD contains the Heart like a hand grenade Film that documents “nine months with Green Day” during the recording of “American Idiot”.
