Cardinals legend receives incredible gift from former Cubs arch-enemy

Cardinals legend receives incredible gift from former Cubs arch-enemy

The St. Louis Cardinals have a new look this season and will be without some of their regular players.

Last season they said goodbye to Adam Wainwright, who finished his career with exactly 200 wins and an ERA of 3.53.

On Thursday, Wainwright posted a video on Twitter of himself opening a package from one of his former arch-enemies and personal heroes.

“You made me a Cubs fan for at least a few minutes,” Wainwright joked after opening his package. “Incredible work. Thank you.”

The gift came from Ian Happ of the Chicago Cubs, who benefited from Wainwright throughout his career. It also included a handwritten note from Eddie Vedder of the rock band Pearl Jam, who is a Cubs fan, as well as a new ukulele.

Since retiring, Wainwright has stayed in the business as a commentator and analyst, but has also launched a career in country music. Happ and Vedder knew this and teamed up to give the Cardinals legend an incredible gift.

But this was quite a surprise from Wainwright. After playing against Happ, you wouldn’t normally expect Wainwright, a Cardinals legend, to get a gift from an old rival on the Cubs.

But Happ put all that aside and was kind enough to give him a truly incredible gift to enjoy as he moves forward in his music career, as well as joining forces with one of Wainwright’s personal heroes.

The soon-to-be 43-year-old right-hander has even released an album called “Hey Y’all.”
