Back to the Democrats? Democratic poll shows big lead for Harris in Miami-Dade

MIAMI DADE COUNTY, Florida. — Democrat Kamala Harris has a double-digit lead over Republican Donald Trump in Miami-Dade County, according to new poll results released Friday by a Democratic strategy group.

According to the EDGE Communications/MDW Communications poll, Harris is ahead by 14 points.

“I’m thrilled – and it’s also a testament to the work being done in Miami-Dade County,” said Shevrin Jones, chairman of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, saying momentum is growing.

“Vice President Harris is talking about the success she and President Biden have had over the last four years,” Jones said. “I think people are tired of the back and forth, they’re tired of MAGA extremism, and they’re looking for candidates who want to govern again.”

Not so fast, says Alex Rizo, chairman of the Miami-Dade Republican Party.

“I don’t think there’s a double-digit lead in Dade County,” Rizo said. “When it comes to what South Floridians – what we’re all feeling and experiencing in Miami-Dade – and how the Biden-Harris administration is responsible for a lot of that, I think you’re going to see things really even out.”

Miami-Dade County is Florida’s most populous county and has the most registered Democrats, but there are changes.

Trump lost to Hillary Clinton by 30 points in 2016, but in 2020 he lost to Biden by only seven points.

And in the 2022 gubernatorial election, Republican Ron DeSantis has tipped the ballot to red.

Voters in Westchester don’t believe this will change.

“That’s impossible,” said one.

“I think most people in Miami-Dade are dissatisfied and you can see the strong support for Donald Trump,” said voter Ernesto Martin.

Voter Rosario Romano says the only real poll takes place on election day.

“The polls reflect a lot of what’s happening right now,” Romano said. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm for her right now, but we have to wait until the last moment.”
