Church near McConnell AFB hosts air show party

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – For those who want to participate this weekend Frontiers in Flight Air Show 2024 You can avoid the traffic and large crowds at McConnell Air Force Base and find a convenient way to enjoy the displays in the sky nearby.

12 News spoke to a church in Wichita about their plans to host a water festival near the base.

The Countryside Christian Church on the corner of Pawnee and Rock Road is hosting its watch party on Sunday for anyone who wants to come and watch the jets, including the US Navy’s Blue Angels.

“We know that McConnell Square is the best square in the house. You can’t get a better square than on campus. But we know it’s pretty exhausting to get through the traffic,” said Lito Solorio, senior pastor of Countryside Christian Church.

As part of its Watch Party, Countryside will have food trucks and restrooms open to the public for family fun.

The church also uses the community event to give back by inviting volunteers to pack shoeboxes for the Christmas Child drive.

Pastor Solorio said this weekend is about giving back to the community and providing families with a safe place to be entertained.

“The street will probably be full already, but it’s just one of those places where you can help out. Even McConnell uses our parking lot for different events,” he said. So we feel like we have a great relationship with them, and if we can get more people to enjoy the air show here in Wichita, we’re happy to do that.”
