Vikings bring Matt Corral into quarterback room after JJ McCarthy’s injury

Vikings bring Matt Corral into quarterback room after JJ McCarthy’s injury

The Minnesota Vikings are already clinging to every straw to save their season, and now that first-round pick JJ McCarthy is out, the team will have to change its plans.

The Vikings have brought in a backup quarterback to replace the injured McCarthy (per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network).

“The #Vikings have signed former #Panthers draft pick QB Matt Corral and placed JJ McCarthy on the injured list,” Pelisero reported.

The Panthers drafted Corral in the third round of the 2022 draft, but he has yet to play in an NFL game. The Mississippi graduate played briefly with the New England Patriots last season before joining the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions this year.

After winning the NCAA National Championship with Michigan and being drafted tenth overall by Minnesota last spring, McCarthy’s streak of success has come to a halt. The 21-year-old suffered a torn meniscus in Saturday’s warm-up game against the Las Vegas Raiders and will miss the season after undergoing surgery.

What will the Vikings’ quarterback team look like now?
