“Let’s See Where This Goes” by Brian Painter is on view at the Norman Hall Art Gallery at Arkansas Tech University through Friday, September 20.

The Norman Hall Art Gallery at Arkansas Tech University is showcasing the works of sculptor Brian Painter during a season-opening exhibition titled “Let’s See Where This Leads.”

The exhibit can be viewed weekdays (except Labor Day) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, September 20, at 203 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission is free and open to the public.

“Let’s See Where This Goes” features sculptures made of metal and found objects. According to a statement published alongside the exhibition, Painter was “inspired by the familiar environments he immerses himself in” and the result is a collection that is “a playful mix of the literal and the metaphorical.”

Painter is a professor of sculpture at Northern Arizona University. He is also a storyteller, nature lover and tour guide on the Colorado River.

“Let’s See Where This Leads” is the first of four exhibitions planned at the Norman Hall Art Gallery during the fall semester of 2024. Other exhibitions include the ATU Faculty Biennial (September 30-October 25), the 18th annual ATU Juried Student Competitive Exhibition (November 6-15), and the ATU Art Education Senior Exhibition (November 23-December 4).

Kris Waid-Jones, assistant professor of sculpture at ATU, begins his first year as director of the Norman Hall Art Gallery.

Waid-Jones joined the ATU faculty in 2022. He succeeds Neal Harrington as director of the gallery. Harrington, an ATU professor of art, directed the art gallery at Arkansas Tech for two decades before stepping down at the end of the spring 2024 semester. Harrington remains an active member of the ATU art faculty.
