“Monster-in-law” ruins his son’s gender reveal party

An overexcited mother-in-law ruined the announcement of her son’s gender, leaving the expectant mother in a state of shock.

David Wilson and his wife Shannon hosted a gender reveal party this summer to celebrate the upcoming birth of their second child.

The two decided to announce the baby’s gender with confetti crackers and provided one for all the party guests, including David’s eager mother.

Unfortunately, the grandmother couldn’t wait to find out the gender and used her confetti popper before the couple got the chance to do it themselves, as seen in a TikTok video posted by Shannon.

“First rule of gender reveal: never give your mother-in-law a cannon,” Shannon wrote in the description of her video.

The Wilsons had been looking forward to the party since she became pregnant.

“The first gender reveal was just me and my husband,” Shannon told Newsweek.

“This time I wanted the people we love to be a part of it too. Plus, it would have been really great for photos.”

They were optimistic that the gender reveal would go smoothly before Daniel’s mother used her confetti popper early.

“We gave instructions and I specifically told them that we would do everything together,” Shannon said.

“I even told them I would kill anyone who let it go too soon. So the fact that it actually happened was more of a shock and a disappointment than a disappointment.”

David’s mother didn’t explain why she dropped the news too soon, but Shannon believed it was because her mother-in-law “wasn’t listening.”

Although Shannon was disappointed with the June 30 video, she and David stuck to the original reveal plan for a July 1 TikTok.

“We got them anyway. There was no swearing, no one was upset… I was fine guys,” Shannon wrote.

Daniel also forgave his mother for her mistake and immediately started smiling and dancing after using his confetti cracker.

Now the couple are expecting the birth of their second child, a boy.

Over 3,300 TikTok users commented on the video, with several blaming Daniel’s mother-in-law for the gender reveal failure.

“It’s the fact that it doesn’t pop easily so it was 100 percent intentional,” wrote one TikToker.

Another commenter wrote: “How can you accidentally twist it enough to burst it? There’s no way it wasn’t done on purpose.”

Others blamed Daniel and Shannon for this surprising turn of events, and one felt this was an example of why only the mother and father of the unborn baby should reveal the gender.

“Why are you giving one to everyone? It’s kind of at your expense,” wrote one commenter.

“That’s why we just opened the envelope at home. People don’t want to see you happy,” one person wrote.
