American Airlines is inviting passengers to participate in its annual campaign, launched in partnership with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), to raise money for cutting-edge, life-saving cancer research. A compelling new public service advertisement featuring actress, producer and prominent SU2C activist Rosario Dawson launched the campaign.

“I am one of the millions of people who have a loved one affected by cancer. This year, 2 million people will be diagnosed – that’s one person every 15 seconds. I hope that people who see this PSA are encouraged to learn more, join us and take on the challenge,” Rosario Dawson, a SU2C ambassador, said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “With the help of donors like you, we are making incredible progress. Together, we could see the end of cancer as we know it.”

Customers who donate $25 or more to Stand Up To Cancer between now and September 30 will receive 25 bonus AAdvantage miles for every dollar donated.

“Cancer touches countless lives, including many of our own team members and their loved ones. Our eight-year partnership with Stand Up To Cancer has become an important part of our airline, allowing us to fulfill our purpose of caring for people on their life journey while supporting Stand Up’s important mission to advance life-saving research,” said Ron DeFeo, American Airlines’ chief communications and marketing officer, in a statement accompanying the announcement to RetailWire.

Additionally, through September 30 or until $3 million is donated (whichever comes first), anyone who makes a donation between $25 and $10,000 using their AAdvantage Mastercard credit card will receive 50 bonus AAdvantage miles per dollar.

Together, American Airlines and SU2C have raised over $20 million in donations since their partnership began in 2016. American Airlines launched a campaign in 2019 that gave donors the opportunity to pay their respects to a loved one by having their name appear on an Airbus A321 aircraft in a unique SU2C livery.

“Cancer is a terrible thing to face alone, which is why Stand Up To Cancer is proud to partner with American Airlines to highlight the incredible stories of how much it can mean to be there during a cancer journey,” said Rusty Robertson, co-founder of SU2C, in a statement. “We thank Rosario Dawson for lending her voice to this campaign, as well as American Airlines and its customers whose generous donations put critical funds into the hands of the best minds in science working tirelessly to advance research and save lives now.”
