Desperate Housewives Star Teri Hatcher has revealed what it was like to go viral in the early days of the internet.
The actress became a household name in the 1990s when she played the legendary comic character Lois Lane in the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. She played Superman alongside Dean Cain.
At the height of the show’s fame in 1995, Hatcher posed for a series of sultry promotional photos, including a nude photo in which she wore nothing but Superman’s iconic red cape.
The photo caused a great stir and was the most downloaded photo at the time, being downloaded thousands of times a month.

Hatcher has now addressed the photo in a fan Q&A published by The Guardian.
A reader asked: “What memories do you have of the time when the picture of you naked, wrapped in a Superman cape, was supposedly the most downloaded image on the Internet?”
“I broke the Internet when dial-up was still a thing. I can’t take credit for being that great,” Hatcher replied.
“I still remember the photo shoot that was used to promote the TV show. It lasted all day. I wore a white blouse and a pencil skirt because Lois was a reporter from the Daily Planetwith the cloak wrapped over it.”
She added: “It wasn’t until the last take of the day that someone said, ‘Could we try the cape without the blouse?’ I thought, ‘What does that mean? Why would Lois Lane be naked under the cape?’ We did it just for fun, but the result was impressive. Now that I’m so much older, I’m still proud of it.”
Hatcher was also asked about her skills as a snooker player during the question and answer session, as in Great Britain Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman originally broadcast after Big breakthrougha TV game show about table sports.
“I don’t know this show, but snooker is like pool, right? I was an only child. My dad was an electrical engineer, so I was good at bowling, golf and pool because it involved angles, speed and hand-eye coordination. So I understand the theory of a bank shot and have managed one once or twice. Could I beat you at pool? It depends on how much we drink,” she replied.
Hatcher recently made headlines when she announced that she and the late Friends The actor had been kicked out of the dating app Hinge.
The couple starred together in the CBS remake of the classic sitcom A strange couple and she told the British newspaper The Telegraph all about their experiences with dating apps.
“We texted a few times a year and, well, I never told this story to anyone, but it was probably a year before he died that I got kicked off the dating app Hinge because the app thought I was pretending to be myself,” she said.
“I posted about it on Twitter and got a text from Matthew. He said, ‘I got kicked off Hinge too! What the hell are we both even doing on Hinge?’ I was like, yeah! What are we doing?!”
Perry was found dead in his home in October 2023 at the age of 54. His death was determined to have been caused by the acute effects of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic used to treat depression and manage pain.
