City of Reno unveils new mural at Mira Loma Skate Park

The City of Reno announced in an Aug. 2 press release that the city held a ceremony to dedicate a new mural at Mira Loma Skate Park on the morning of Aug. 6. The mural was created in collaboration with CoLAB Mural Works, a program of the EL Cord Museum School and Communities in Schools, by artist Ray Valdez, who led a group of students from local high schools in the design and painting of the mural. The students were compensated for their work and learned how to create a public art proposal in the process.

Works by Las Vegas artist Diane Bush exhibited in Buffalo, NY

A July 26 press release announced that “MAKE A MERKIN GREAT AGAIN,” a satirical work by Diane Bush, is included in the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s group exhibition. The Unseen: Works from the Collection now on display in Buffalo, New York through October 27th. “MAKE A MERKIN GREAT AGAIN” is based on an idea by Bush’s husband Steve Baskin and is made of hand-spun cat fur. Bush was born in Buffalo and now lives with Baskin in Las Vegas.

Webinar on National Arts in Education Week planned for August 15

The Arts Action Fund announced on August 2 that registration is now open for its National Arts in Education Week webinar, scheduled for August 15 at 2 p.m. ET. This arts advocacy webinar is the third in a series hosted by Americans for the Arts and the Arts Action Fund. During the webinar, speakers will explain how you can take action during National Arts in Education Week, September 9-13, 2024. Register here.

Arts For All Nevada seeks a teaching artist

Arts For All Nevada announced on August 5 that they are looking to fill a contract position for a teaching artist. The job responsibilities include teaching in several classrooms in Washoe County, including Washoe County Schools, at private events, contract classes with other organizations, and on-site at Lake Mansions Arts and Cultural Center. The teaching artist must be available throughout the week and have at least two years of experience teaching art to children.
