Zoo Friday nights: It’s “evening season” at the LA Zoo, when warm weather and warm spirits bring many soirées. This Friday night series is open to all ages and includes live music, animal encounters, food for sale, and the beautiful and rare chance to visit the zoo at night. Be there for the furry/feathered fun on August 16, 23, and/or 30.

Nisei Week: It’s the final weekend for this lively and beautiful Little Tokyo festival, which is prized for its incredible cultural offerings. A two-day plaza festival, the Crazy Talented Asians musical cabaret, taiko drumming and Ondo street dancing are all on the program (the “entire community” is invited to participate in the street dancing). The venerable festivities will conclude on August 18 for the 82nd year.

CicLAvia – Meet the Hollywoods: What do you call a group of Hollywoods? A starlight? Maybe a fame? Show your love for all of our amazing Hollywoods – East, West and the heart of old Hollywood – on August 18th when CicLAvia rolls through 6.6 miles of streets that were closed to cars. Bring your bike or skates and ride the Metro; there are three stations along the route.

OC Fair: The month-long, mega-happy party with its piglets, fried candy bars, rocking live shows and art competitions is just about to leave Costa Mesa. It’s “Always a Good Time” – yes, that’s the motto for 2024 – but “always” has to end at some point. Come by August 18, but buy your ticket beforehand.

818 Day: San Fernando Valley, your greatest occasion is upon us, the holiday that honors your legendary area code. It all happens on August 18, though this Topanga Social celebration lasts all weekend. My Valley Pass honors the offbeat touch with an ’80s-themed craft fair at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, if that’s your thing.
