Since the introduction of the veto right in Big Brother 3 In 2002, house guests who were about to be evicted used this opportunity to disappear from the block.

Winning the Veto Contest is the only surefire way for a candidate to ensure their own safety. Of course, they can try to get another player to use the Veto against them or canvass for votes before eviction night, but there is no greater relief for a candidate than having the golden Veto Power hung around their neck.

You’d have to be a little crazy to be nominated for eviction, gain the power of veto, and not use it against yourself, but six houseguests did just that.

Marcella Reynolds – “Big Brother 3”

Marcellas won the veto in Week 9 while on the block next to Amy CrewsHis ally Danielle Reyes convinced him not to use the veto by arguing that Amy was guaranteed to go home. Danielle added that forcing the Head of Household Jason Guy naming a replacement candidate would only anger the house. Marcellas believed her and Danielle shamefully betrayed him by voting him out of the house.

After Marcellas was expelled, Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves playfully smacked him on the side of the head with a cue card to express her disappointment at his decision.

Dick Donato – “Big Brother 8”

In week 6 of the 2007 season, Dick was nominated for eviction along with his daughter. Daniele BrionesHe won the veto power and decided to use it not against himself but against Daniele. Dustin Erikstrup then volunteered to be the replacement candidate, believing he had the votes to stay against Dick. Dustin was blindsided on eviction night when he was voted out 4-2, with Dick and Daniele taking first and second place respectively.

Daniele Briones – “Big Brother 8”

Daniele had the opportunity to meet her father in the 10th week of Big Brother 8 when the couple once again found themselves next to each other on the block. This time, Daniele won the Veto and used it for Dick instead of himself. Since they were in the final 4, Jameka Cameron was the only available option for a replacement candidate. Dick was the only vote to evict her.

Brendon Villegas – “Big Brother 13”

In the fourth week of the 2011 season, Brendon stood next to his then fiancée, Rachel Reilly. He won the veto, but decided to use it against Rachel instead and was subsequently unseated by the replacement candidate. Jordan Lloyd.

Rachel won the season and she and Brendon married in 2012. They had their daughter Adora in 2016 and their son Adler in 2020.

Matt Clines – “Big Brother 19”

Matt won the Veto in Week 7 of the 2017 season and used it to save Jason Dent although he himself was on the brink. Cody Nickson took Jason’s place and was unanimously expelled.

Tucker Des Lauriers – “Big Brother 26”

Tucker volunteered to go on the block in Week 3 of the 2024 season. Due to the BB AI Arena twist, he was nominated along with two other houseguests, Angela Murray And Kenney KelleyAfter winning the veto, Tucker hatched a plan to use the veto against Angela, hoping that the head of the household Cedric Hodges would then backdoor Quinn Martin.

Cedric eventually decided the move was too risky and told Tucker to use the Veto on himself. However, Tucker went through with his bold move and used the Veto on Angela and remained on the block for eviction night. He competed in the BB AI arena against Kenney and America’s Nominee Quinn and emerged victorious. Kenney was then evicted.
