Biden’s campaign team trolls Trump’s 78 “achievements” on the former president’s birthday

The Biden team congratulated former President Trump on his 78th birthday on Friday, compiling a mocking list of 78 “accomplishments” that highlighted his legal troubles and some controversial moments from his time in office.

The list includes Trump’s numerous felony convictions in New York late last month, some of his difficulties as a business owner, his handling of the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in 2017, his call for the death penalty for the Central Park Five, a video he posted on social media alluding to a “united empire,” his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, his efforts to overturn the Affordable Care Act and his statements advocating for an end to Roe v. Wade.

“Happy birthday, Donald. You are a crook, a loser, a fraud, and a threat to our democracy, economy, rights, and future,” Biden campaign spokesman James Singer said in a statement. “On behalf of America, our early gift for your 79th birthday: We will make sure you never become president again.”

Trump will celebrate his birthday with an appearance in Florida at an event hosted by Club 47 USA at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The group bills itself as the largest club of Trump supporters in the country.

Age has become a major issue in the November election. President Biden, 81, and Trump are the two oldest major party candidates running against each other. Despite their similar ages, polls have shown that age is a bigger issue for Biden among voters.

According to a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted this month, 50 percent of voters said Trump has the mental and cognitive health needed to serve as president, compared with 35 percent who said the same about Biden.

Either candidate would be the oldest president ever to hold office at the end of a possible second term. Trump would be 82 and seven months old, while Biden would be 86 and two months old.

Trump has largely avoided attacking Biden on his age, insisting that mental acuity is not dependent on age. Instead, he has repeatedly criticized Biden as “incompetent” and the worst president in history. Trump’s campaign team frequently highlights moments when Biden seems lost or stumbles over his words.

When a Trump supporter wished the former president a happy birthday at a rally in Las Vegas on Sunday, he joked that he would rather not be reminded.

“Don’t tell me that. … I don’t want to hear that; I don’t want to hear it,” Trump said.

After the crowd sang him “Happy Birthday,” Trump joked, “There comes a point where you don’t want to hear ‘Happy Birthday’ anymore. You just want to pretend that this day doesn’t exist.”
